Cricket History
Cricket traces its roots back to 17th-century England. The earliest known mention of adults playing the game dates to 1611. Over time, it grew in popularity, and by 1744, the first official set of written rules had been documented.
First International Encounter
The sport went global when the United States and Canada faced off in the very first international cricket match, played in New York from September 24 to 26, 1844. This historic event is recognized as the world’s first international sports match, even predating international football.

Birth of Test Cricket
Test cricket—the longest and most traditional format—made its debut in March 1877, when Australia hosted England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This landmark event marked the start of competitive international cricket as we know it today.
